Winter NC500 in photos.

This post is part of our NC500 in winter story. The full journey is written in a separate blog post, but here I wanted to keep the photos together.

Sometimes words are not enough. Some moments stay best as images.

A winter morning in the forest near Inverness. We stopped here to stretch our legs and look for Hill 99 Tower.

A quick stop during the drive. The dogs finally got to run in the snow.

Long hours on the road. The girls were patient and always found something to do.

Mountain landscape along the North Coast 500 in winter

We stopped here for a short break and few photos.

The view looked calm and peaceful, but the wind was brutal. We managed maybe five minutes outside the camper before the cold became too much.

We reached Smoo Cave during a snowstorm. Luckily, the walk from the car park was short and we managed to get down.

Inside Smoo Cave. Cold, wet, and very raw.

Snowy road leading towards Ullapool in winter

After another stormy day, we decided to drive towards Ullapool. The weather slowly improved and snow started to cover the landscape.

Another short stop along the way.

The full moon was already visible, and the sky slowly changed colours, from soft pink to blue and back to pink again.

Just outside the frame, groups of deer were moving across the fields. They stood there for a moment, calm and dignified, watching us. I could see them clearly, even if my lens could not bring them any closer. Seeing them like this was unforgettable.

Driving towards Ullapool on a snowy road in late winter afternoon

Late afternoon on the road. We were running out of daylight. It was clear we would notake it to Ullapool before dark.

We woke up in Ullapool to falling snow. One of our camper neighbours told us about the creel Christmas tree. We missed it in the evening, but it still looked impressive in daylight.

Just outside Ullapool, we found a beautiful forest. We were already driving back towards Fort William and stopped for a proper break. The weather improved, the snow was perfect, and the children had a great time playing.

For a moment, the sun even came out.

The forest looked completely different once the weather cleared. Snow, light, and a much better mood.

We parked near Ben Nevis and woke up to another beautiful winter morning. Snow, light, and a feeling that Scotland still wanted to show us how good it can be.

The forecast for the next day was rain, so we knew it was time to slowly head home.

A snowy path near Ben Nevis.

It does not take much to bring smiles to children’s faces. Just snow, a small sledge, and a morning like this.

A curious robin followed us for a while.

I took far too many photos, but it felt like the right way to end this winter story.

This was our winter NC500.

A few days on the road, changing weather, and many small moments in between.

These images show only fragments of our winter NC500.
